Stainless steel is the short name of rust-proof acid-proof steels. The steel resistant to chemical corrosion media (acid, alkali, salt, etc.) is called acid-resistant steel.

Due to the difference in chemical composition, their corrosion resistance is different. Ordinary stainless steel is generally not resistant to corrosion of chemical media, while acid-resistant steel is generally non-rust. The word "stainless steel" is not merely refers to a pure stainless steel, but said more than one hundred kinds of stainless steel industry, the development of each stainless steel has good performance in their specific applications. The key to success is first to find out the purpose, and then to determine the correct type of steel. There are usually only six kinds of steel related to the field of building construction. They all contain between 17 and 22 percent chromium, and better steel also contains nickel. The addition of molybdenum can further improve the atmospheric corrosion, especially the corrosion resistance of the atmosphere containing chloride.

Stainless steel refers to steel that is resistant to corrosion of weak corrosive medium such as air, steam and water, and chemical corrosive medium such as acid, alkali and salt. In practical application, steel resistant to corrosion of weak corrosive medium is often called stainless steel, while steel resistant to corrosion of chemical medium is called acid resistant steel. Due to the difference in chemical composition, the former is not necessarily resistant to corrosion of chemical media, while the latter is generally non-rust. The corrosion resistance of stainless steel depends on the alloy elements contained in the steel.
